Preparing for....Winter!

In preparing for winter (yikes! can it really be that time of year??) today we went out into the National Forest just 30 min out side of town to get some fire wood!

Yup - firewood! - we have a sweet little wood stove to heat our house, and (i guess??) now is the time of year to collect firewood! hooray!

So we took the chain saw and chopped up some trees!

Now, don't you fret, all you tree lovers out there! We aren't cutting down living trees, but tree's that have already fallen, and really important people at the BLM & National Forest have deemed OK to have as fire wood. There is a very specific area you are allowed to get wood, and its all very clearly marked. So we aren't interrupting wild life, or growth, and the pamphlet they gave us when we bought the permit educated us on not cutting anything with nests or things of that nature that are around the tree.

So, we were very cautious, only cut where we were allowed to, and we waited for an hour (err...45min) to make sure we didn't start any forest fires!

It was a lot of work! That chain saw is heavy

(you see, i also got a shot at the o'll chain saw!)

and it was a lot of work carrying all the wood to the trailor......BUT it shall all be worth it when we have cozy little fires in the wood stove while the snow falls in Central Oregon.
