Calculator & Yoga Mat

Tonight I bought a Calculator & Yoga Mat.

Tomorrow I am taking the placement test up at the college. You did not miss read that: BIG NEWS I will be a college student this fall. Maybe it's not big news, but it feels like its a big deal for me.

I am planning on going for Elementary Education. I want to teach second grade. Today we filled out all the FASFA stuff (throw up a little prayer we can afford school), tomorrow is the placement test, and July I will meet with an adviser.

I'm finally ready. For college. Its a weird feeling, because for so long I was so against it, I hated the thought of school, it was my worse nightmare! But now my hearts desire is to be in a classroom.

Funny how things change. Although, I don't think it ever really changed. My hearts desire that is. I think I've always known I wanted to teach, I just haven't always wanted to go to school....

The Calculator entered the scene tonight, while Ian and I were sitting in front of the computer trying to figure out the practice questions for the test tomorrow, and neither of us could do the stinking math!!

Although, I'm not convinced the calculator actually helped much. I might get one question right on the math part. I'm sure I'll be in Math 50, for like, ever.

I just want to write a note to who-ever-the-big-man-is and tell them this: My math lessons, when I am a teacher will not be lacking. Because I have the best resource in the whole wide world when it comes to teaching math and that is: my mother-in-law. Amathlady is MY mother-in-law, who is on the cutting edge of teaching math, with an entire room in the house dedicated to math, I mean really, she travels all around the country teaching teachers how to teach math, and she is MY mother-in-law So really, no matter what my math grades are in College, it will not be a direct reflection on my math lessons as a teacher. so please? Can i just be a teacher already?! And skip the math.

Oh. I. Hate. Math.

So I bought a Yoga Mat. Because I really enjoy Yoga. And it will calm me down when math stresses me out. And honestly I'm tired of using the mats they have at the gym. Last night at yoga the mat I used smelled like feet. Not mine. Ew.

A calculator & yoga mat. The perfect combination.

A calculator and yoga mat are a great combination. Be sure to use the yoga mat BEFORE you attempt the math. Go into it centered! ;^) Remember that all of us are here to support you as you follow your dreams. Many of us also love that classroom! Love to you both - Mike & Anne

i love this entry. i think you will be an amazing teacher kdawg. and even if you start out in math 50, you'll still have a great time in college. go you!

ps, the smelly feet comment made me laugh. i just remember all the times when we were younger that you would look down at your feet and say "don't i just have the cutest feet ever!?" HAHA

I will so enjoy having you in a classroom!!! You will be awesome!!!!

I can even help with your math courses in college. Ian used to call me (when he worked at Roths') to help him figure out math problems. I don't charge for family!!!!

(Thank you for the nice comments about your mother-in-law.)

Love you,
MOM (Nancy)

Hey Kendra - this is great news! I'm excited for you. If it helps at all, I am an Academic Advisor at OSU, and would be happy to help demystify the college process anytime. And don't stress about the math - start where the placement test indicates and chug along till you get where you need to go. You'll be surprised how well your "adult" brain will do ;)
