Sometimes I forget how much I love the river. Or how much I need the river.
I haven't lived in Maupin in four years, so I didn't know any of the guides, or even who would be there, what it would be like. As it ended up, I was in a group with some freaking awesome peeps! ( I did WAY to many push-up's playing the game of life!) But, lauged a LOT. I think Maupin just draws RAD people, yes, I just said rad. But it's true.
My soul is happy falling asleep outside, to the sound of the river, watching shooting stars everynight, cooking outside, having NO CELL PHONE, no internet access, no TV, no radio. We sat around every night, by the light of a lantern and LAUGHED. Spent the days on the river, the nights camping, and honestly life does. not. get. better.
We almost lost some boats, one guide caught on fire, there were lots of funny jokes told, and some pretty fun times on the raft.
After 4 days on the river with super-smart-college-kids, we spent a perfect night in Maupin which included cheap beer, dance party at the Guide House, volleyball, Tuesday Taco Night @ the Tygh Tavern, Kerokee, dancing and just a really freaking good time. God I love Maupin.
And yesterday we rallyed for a trip on the White Salmon where we ran a 14ft class 5 waterfall.
Oh, it never gets old. I was so happy. Wait until you see the pictures!
I'll leave you with this joke, (which I'm allowed to tell, because I just spent 4 entire days with Reed College Kids)
